THE WWF NEW GENERATION ERA PROJECT: SUPERSTARS REVIEW 08/14/1993

Utica Memorial Auditorium
Utica, NY

RAZOR RAMON vs. DUANE GILL
It's funny, the only difference between a face Razor Ramon squash match and a heel one is the crowd cheering or booing. He does pretty much the exact same moves in the same order, with the top rope back body drop setting up his Razor's Edge. It's not that I mind. I like that he's pretty much the same guy. I hate it when guys turn face and change their whole act to something more lame. Lookin' at you John Morrison.

LUDVIG BORGA vs. MIKE CURRY
THE POWER.
I really dig the way Borga bulldozes over people. He just maul's Mike Curry, refusing to pin him when the guy was totally out. I think my one complaint was that he finished the match with a flying clothesline that looked pretty terrible, especially compared to some of the stuff he did earlier.

THE STEINERS vs. MIKE BELL & GLENN RUTH
Poor Glenn Ruth, they must have it in for him, because he gets put in with the Steiners more than anyone, I think. And Scott kills him dead with the big guns. I'm talking a T-Bone Suplex, a Dragon Suplex and then he drilled him with a Steiner Screw Driver. Jeeze. Lawler saw it and immediately said, "That should be outlawed."

SHAWN MICHAELS vs. DARREN TRUJILLO
Shawn is so great at utilizing his squash matches to get over his personality. He actually let's Darren get in some offense just so he can make a comeback and look bored doing it. Such an arrogant douche - I love it. He actually finished off Darren with the SuperKick, but it didn't have much build up. He's been playing with the idea of just transitioning to that and I think here's the match where he's adopted it as his finisher. It really doesn't look like much now, so it's crazy to think how over this move is going to get.

TATANKA vs. FRED WILLIAMS
I have no idea who Fred Williams, but he's got potential. He wrestles barefoot so I kind of assume he's got some Samoan lineage going. I can't seem to find anything about him, so if any one knows his story, share it. He looks like he have a cool look if they Umaga'd him up a bit. And he can move pretty decent for heavy. He might be a little short though. Anyway, typical Tatanka squash, but made better with an interesting guy to squash.

HEAVENLY BODIES vs.BERT CENTENO & RICH MEYERS

Two matches in to their WWF career and I love the Heavenly Bodies. First off, they look like sleazy old school porn stars and Jimmy Del Rey does this gross ass dance after the match where he's gyrating his hips that is just tremendous. And not only are they totally douchey heels, but they've got some pretty sweet offense, like Pritchard's top rope powerslam and Del Rey's top rope moonsault. I'm really looking forward to them vs. the Steiners. If the Steiners actually let the Bodies control them for a bit, it might be a blast.

OVERALL SHOW:
Some fun stuff Obviously the Heavenly Bodies are awesome. Ludvig Borga is growing on me, but he's missing something. There's nothing really competitive here, so it's not anything worth tracking down, but it is fun if you like a good jobber killin'.
